Business rates have over a number of years become an area of concern to commercial operations and now represent a major operational expense. The 2005 Rating Revaluation came into effect on 1st April 2005 and many concerns are faced with substantial increases in the levels of rateable value. It is important to fully appreciate the implications and impact of the new Rating List particularly as once again transitional considerations apply. Appeals have to be carefully considered. The new regulations allow a single appeal only against the newly compiled List figures, unless certain circumstances apply, and as such it is important to “get it right”. Fowler Sandford have dealt with rating appeals at all levels for a wide range of properties from small shops and office units through to specialist properties such as integrated steel works. Full and comprehensive advice is available with no obligation.
